Last night we tried to get reservations at the Ethan Stowell restaurant where he is the chef...they had no reservations available for over a month so off to his establishment on Pill Hill, Anchovies and Olives. I had one of the most delicious appetizer I have ever had. Escobar that was prepared seviche style, pickled jalapeƱo, finely diced red onion, Italian ham ad avocado crema...oh my gosh it was delicious!! there was beet salad with fresh sardines and walnuts. the pasta was buckwheat. The dessert was a poached fennel and car car orange slice with panna cotta. Yum. Ethan has been nominated for several years for the James Beard Award. this award ceremony takes place in NYC, evidently always around his birthday. because he has not won, it always SPOILS his birthday. after dinner we saw the Alvin Ailey Dance Troupe which was great. I met a woman who said it was on her bucket list...she has metastatic CA. These sobering moments put life in perspective. The show was stunning.
